The East Devonport man was the only person in a white Toyota Camry when he failed to negotiate a turn about 3am and collided with a tree.
Police, Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Ambulance crews all attended to the Port Sorell Road crash scene, but the man was pronounced dead by ambulance officers.
Burnie Police Senior Constable Sven Mason said officers from Devonport Police had come across the single vehicle crash site at 3.13am Friday.
Police found the driver unresponsive nearby, indicating that he had not been wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car upon impact.
"At this stage we are looking at speed [and] we are not ruling out alcohol and drugs," Senior Constable Mason said.
It's just a waste and it's so preventable.
