The 18-year-old from Wynyard will be part of the North Melbourne team that confronts reigning premier Western Bulldogs at Launceston's UTAS Stadium, a moment she described as a dream come true.

The former Burnie Docker will become the fourth Tasmanian to don the blue and white, joining fellow North-West Coast products Emma Humphries and Brittany Gibson, along with Clarence's Nicole Bresnehan.

The midfielder, who has the 53rd pick in the AFLW draft after coming through the national academy, on Thursday reflected a moment last year on a trip to Melbourne with twin sister Libby that locked in her head that this was the stage she wanted to be on.

"It is a year ago this weekend that me and Libby went over to watch some games (for their 18th birthday), and it is unreal that I am now part of it,'' she said.

"I remember watching a Collingwood game and seeing Mo Hope, Jasmine Garner and Emma King, and now they're my teammates, which is obviously really cool.

"It is crazy when you look around and players that you have looked up to watching the last three years of AFLW and being able to call them teammates."

If the former basketballer could find a down point though, it would be the fact that Libby, who was drafted as a defender, won't be beside her on Friday.

Haines estimated that it will be just the third game she has played without her sister as a teammate.

"Obviously it would have been good if we were able to play together, but obviously the match-ups aren't right. The next goal is to play with her."

Coach Scott Gowans was confident UTAS Stadium would suit the running game of his side, as they come up against their biggest test of the season.

The game will see reigning league best and fairest Emma Kearney and Jenna Bruton come up against their former side.

"The team has been set up on Arden Street, which is a fairly wide ground as well, and to break lines and the way you find space when teams try to shut you down is you actually almost criss-cross lines, so your wings and your centre players can actually get to half-forward and your half-forwards can get up higher, so you mix it around like that,'' he said.

"The big thing for us this week is the challenge, and the challenge for us is to beat the reigning premiers.

"It doesn't matter if they have lost players or if they have injuries or whatever, when you get the chance to come up against the best you want to play well, and they are the best."

The Roos made two changes with Haines and Courteney Munn in for Ash Riddell (ankle) and  Sophie Abbatangelo (quad), with Wynyard's Ellyse Gamble an emergency at the Bulldogs.

Friday's game in Launceston  will start at 7.15pm.  Admission will be free.
