Chair of the Legislative Council committee Ivan Dean said he hoped the board and inquiry would "complement one another".
"Our parliamentary inquiry is looking at more issues than whether the government can stand behind our own AFL team," Mr Dean said.
"Our inquiry will consider where games would be played and where the team will be domiciled."
More on Tasmania's push for an AFL team:
A new Football Tasmania Board was announced by the government on Wednesday and one of its first tasks will be to set up a three member AFL project team to draft a plan for a Tasmanian AFL and AFLW team.
Board chair, retiring president of the Legislative Council Jim Wilkinson said the board would consider the findings of the committee.
"I'm sure the board will look at every bit of evidence and advice," Mr Wilkinson said.
"Once they have all the information they will decide what they should proceed with."
Mr Dean said he hoped the new project team would take into account his committee's findings.
"I hope they hold back and listen to what we come up with," he said.
Mr Dean's committee will hold its first meeting in March and will then call for submissions.
"We will be seeking submissions from a rather large number of people and groups and of course the public," he said.
Mr Dean said it was hoped the committee would hand down its report by the end of this year.
