A senior police officer has urged Tasmanians to report any crimes.

Western District Commander Debbie Williams was speaking after the release of Australian Bureau of Statistics figures estimating large numbers of crimes went unreported each year in Tasmania.
"What it (reporting crime) does is it helps us with identifying trends, or perhaps there may be multiple occurrences of something that we're not aware of," Commander Williams said.
"It's certainly in everybody's interests, including the victims, to report a crime to Tasmania Police."
Among other things, the ABS estimated that in 2017-18:
- Just 56.9 per cent of physical assaults were reported to police;
- only half of thefts from motor vehicles were reported; and
- 65.2 per of home break-ins were reported.
Police Minister Michael Ferguson also urged victims and witnesses of crime to tell police.
" … in order for police to catch criminals, it is vital for victims and the public to report crimes," Mr Ferguson said.
