Recently completing fashion design at TasTAFE’s Newnham campus, they are both looking forward to studying a Bachelor of Fashion Design with honours at “the best fashion school in Australia”, RMIT.
Despite the course being highly competitive, Miss Loft, of West Launceston, and Mr Marshall, of George Town, were both accepted to the fashion course.
“Something like 500 students entered and 200 get in,” Mr Marshall said.
A combination of marks, courses, a comprehensive portfolio and essay questions got them over the line.
“We had to answer essay questions and then we had to write about each page of the portfolio,” Miss Loft said.
“It took a solid two days to put together,” she said.
“We’ve built our portfolio over a couple of years, “ Mr Marshall said.
Most of the work contained within their portfolios was completed through school, via certificate and diploma courses at TasTAFE’s Newnham campus, with other work created for competitions and work experience.
“A lot of my content was from years 9 to 12, but a lot more technique and skills were shown from this [TasTAFE] course,” Miss Loft said.
RMIT is the next step on their path to the runway.
“I would really like to get into the [fashion] industry either by working for a label, or to have my own label,” Miss Loft said.
“I love fashion, but I also love the business side of fashion as well, so my own label is what I’m looking for,” Mr Marshall said.
