Andrew Rex Gleeson stood trial in the Launceston Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to recklessly discharging a firearm.
It was alleged Mr Gleeson fired a shotgun at Darren Tynan’s car at Mayfield in January 2017.
Mr Gleeson was looking for his friend Jake Talbot because their relationship had changed, the court heard.
The jury was told the accused visited his friend’s mum Penny’s house at Mayfield three times in the hours preceding the shooting.
Ms Talbot lived with her partner Mr Tynan and their young daughter.
When giving evidence on Thursday, Ms Talbot said she told the accused her son lived at Trevallyn and to go see him there.
The court heard Ms Talbot and her daughter left their house for the night after Mr Gleeson’s third visit.
Mr Tynan also took the stand on Thursday, telling the court his front fence was rammed about 10.30pm on that night.
The court heard Mr Tynan sat in the dark in his lounge room for the rest of the evening because he couldn’t go to bed after “something like that happening”.
About 1.30am Mr Tynan said he heard a motorcycle pull up, so he looked through his blinds and saw the accused. Shortly after that he told the court he heard a gunshot.
Defence lawyer Patrick O’Halloran told the jury someone discharged a firearm that night, but it was not his client. The 28-year-old was bailed to reappear on March 18.
