Both Mount Victoria and Mount Read recorded 61 millimetres of rain the 24 hours until 9am this morning – the highest totals in the state.
Launceston recorded 29mm, Queenstown had 45mm and Strahan received 31mm.
The heaviest falls largely missed fire-affected areas in Great Pine Tier which recorded 6mm, Maydena with 5.6mm and the Huon Valley with about 5mm, however stronger winds and heavy rain could have had a negative affect on fire fighting efforts.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Debbie Tabor said while more rain was expected across Tasmania later in the week, it was unlikely to reach the total experienced this morning.
“Tomorrow we have a west to southwesterly stream bringing around five to 15mm in the west, and less than 5mm everywhere else,” she said.
“Thursday will also see rain in the western parts of the state, and Friday will have scattered showers.”
Snow is expected above 800 metres on Tuesday, largely in the south of Tasmania.
“That won’t be until later tonight,” Ms Tabor said.
“It’s unlikely it will settle because of the warmer ground. It will be there until early tomorrow and then temperatures will start to increase again.”
