The jury began deliberating about 2.30pm on Monday, but told Justice Robert Pearce they were at an impasse by about 5pm.
Justice Pearce advised the jury to continue trying and adjourned the trial until Tuesday.
Mr Gleeson, of Mayfield, has pleaded not guilty to recklessly discharging a firearm in January 2017.
It was alleged the 28-year-old wanted to see his friend Jake Talbot because their relationship had changed.
The court heart Mr Gleeson visited the Mayfield Road house of his friend’s mum and step dad, Penny Talbot and Darren Tynan, three times in the hours preceding the shooting.
It was alleged Mr Tynan saw Mr Gleeson in his front yard and he watched the accused raise a gun to his shoulder and shoot at his car.
Defence lawyer Patrick O’Halloran told the jury someone discharged a firearm that night, but it was not his client.
