Dance students Josh Brown and Gabby Hoffman were accepted into Patrick Studios Australia in Melbourne, while Brooke Chugg and Liv Maurer are attending Brent Street Performing Arts School’s Gold Coast campus.
Josh, Brooke, Liv and Gabby have all been dancing for 14 to 15 years.
Josh said he was very excited to be progressing his dancing career.
“I started dancing when I was four and to come to Melbourne and have this opportunity is crazy,” he said.
“Especially when you’re from a small town in George Town.”
The quartet were taken to workshops in Victoria last April by Bee Bop Studio owner Mel Street, where they showed their talents and received offers and scholarships from the academies.
Study lengths for each of the students varies between one and two years.
“The [successful students] always come back and support the studio where they started which is really lovely,” Ms Street said.
“These four students have known for a long time that this is what they want to do and they set their minds to it and worked hard and that’s what they were able to do.
“We’re really excited to see what comes from this year.”
Gabby said she was so excited to be doing something she loves [dancing] all day, everyday.
“Whilst it’s also going to help me improve and get where I want to be with my dancing, it will also help me mature and grow as a person,” she said.
The students said they hope the opportunity to study at these schools will progress their careers as professional dancers.
All four said they hoped to maybe join a dance company on a cruise ship.
“Tap and commercial styles are my favourites so after I graduate I would love to work in either of those genres,” Liv said.
“There is a Christmas tap show at Disneyland in Paris that would be amazing to be a part of.”
