Marcus Bower - actor, director, drama teacher, theatre reviewer, writer, committee member and mentor – has been recongised with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tasmanian Theatre Council.

TCT president Peter Sexton said Bower had made significant contributions to the Tasmanian theatre community for more than 50 years.
“There are people throughout Tasmania and beyond who credit Marcus as a principle source of inspiration and guidance in their careers and lives,” he said.
Bower has directed many local productions spanning 30 years, and over 40 productions at Scotch Oakburn College.
He was the theatre critic for The Examiner for over 25 years, and wrote and directed an annual satirical revue at the Royal Oak Hotel on and off for over 30 years, and has been active behind the scenes as past president of The Old Nick Company and the Launceston Players.
Among Bower’s many theatrical roles, were his “outstanding” performances as Emcee for Cabaret, Grant Swain in Dead White Males and his role in Twelve Angry Men (winner of the Tasmanian Theatre Award for Best Ensemble in 2017). He has also been sought after for advertising campaigns and TV work including ABC’s production of Dynasties,
Bower will receive in person on Saturday February 23 at the Tasmanian Theatre Awards ceremony at Wrest Point Casino, Hobart.
