The crash occurred on the Bass Highway at the Wilson Street intersection about 4.10pm.
Police said a white Holden utility travelling south on Wilson Street had entered the intersection on a green light but failed to give way to the emergency vehicle also entering the intersection.
The two vehicles collided and the Holden rolled onto its side, stopping on the southern side of the highway.
The driver of the Holden was transported to the North West Regional Hospital and was later released.
Two paramedics from the ambulance were provided first aid at the scene.
Police, Tasmania Fire Service and additional ambulance crews attended the scene.
