The City of Launceston council unanimously approved the development application at its meeting on Thursday.
The jewellers will be located on the corner of Charles and Brisbane Street.
The application was specifically for the signs, and had nothing to do with the building’s historical shop front.
The councillors agreed the city had “dodged a bullet” regarding the historic shopfront which was planned to be replaced.
The council received nearly 20 representations related to the works, raising concerns around the potential removal of the building’s street-level facade and stained glass windows.
The existing stained glass windows, tiles and framing are now to be kept and incorporated into the new design.
Developers agreed to keep the shop front, which Councillor Janie Finlay said was a fantastic result for the community.
