When we go on holidays, we inevitably try and cram in as many major sites at a particular place as we can. It makes sense – who knows when we’ll have the opportunity to see them again? But sometimes, when there’s a major tourist attraction right on our doorstop, we can’t quite be bothered. “I can see that anytime,” we say.

Seahorse World at Beauty Point falls into that category for some Tasmanians we know. But if there’s any time to go and see it (or perhaps, see it again), it’s now. Staff have managed to accomplish the rarest of feats: breeding leafy sea dragons. A surreal, incandescent, male underwater beauty drifting through the water with a cluster of translucent eggs clinging to his purple-pink tail – who knows when you’ll have the opportunity to see that again?
