Not only is she getting a second chance at re-establishing herself in the AFLW system with North Melbourne, but there is also the fact that it is the Kangaroos’ first ever game in the competition.
Added to all that is the chance to do it in front of a parochial Tasmanian crowd as part of the club’s arrangement with the state.
Speaking yesterday at Ulverstone before she heads down to Hobart on Saturday morning to join up with her new teammates, Humphries was trying to remain calm but admitted that this just wasn’t any ordinary season opener.
“I’m really just trying to keep things low-key,” she said.
“But it definitely is exciting - obviously I work for AFL Tasmania so to see the work that everyone has been put in behind the scenes to finally have a game here is just amazing.
“I'm usually pretty relaxed, but I'm sure the nerves will hit me on the day.
“But for now I'm just trying to play it down and avoid everything.
“I’ll travel down Saturday morning and I think the flight gets in at 2.30pm, so I’ll meet them at the hotel at 3pm ready for the captain’s run at 4pm at North Hobart.”
Humphries will be one of three Tasmanian’s lining up for the Kangaroos on Sunday, with fellow North-West player Brittany Gibson and Clarence’s Nicole Bresnehan also confirmed starters against Carlton.
The game at North Hobart Oval starts at 1.05pm.
