The Greater Launceston Rotary Passport Club meets just four times each year for a coffee, with members picking and choosing the projects they want to be involved with regionally, nationally or around the world.
Rotary Group 4 assistant governor and club coordinator Brett Williams said this group was the first in Australia, with others opening in Hobart and Far North Queensland.
“The Passport Club is a new concept to Rotary. Instead of attending meetings weekly or fortnightly we have four meetings a year,” Mr Williams said.
“It’s still part of the Rotary family and members can attend meetings anywhere.”
This pared-down club suits people who would normally join Rotary clubs in their region, but have time constraints, Mr Williams said.
“They are finding ways to use their skills and still be part of Rotary,” he said.
“There are many ways to engage in Rotary and still commit to causes and events without having to give up time for weekly meetings.”
The first Greater Launceston Rotary Passport Club will be held at The Grove Cafe at University of Tasmania’s Newnham campus on Tuesday, February 12, when the concept will be explained to prospective members.
Meet at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
