Broth Me, on Margaret Street, is officially open for business.
The cafe is low carb, keto and gluten free and owner Liz Vincent assures customers it’s all delicious and guilt free.
“We’ve been eating low carb for our own health reasons for just over year,” she said.
“We found the struggle of actually going out and finding somewhere healthy to eat without having to pick apart menus and deconstructing them was a challenge.”
Broth Me started as a small operation in Ms Vincent’s kitchen before growing too big.
The broths are cooked for more than 36 hours with love and attention to ensure every last scrap of nutrients from the bones is extracted. The T-Bags are an Australian first, and make drinking broth not only easy, but enjoyable, Ms Vincent said.
“I’ve been doing the bone broth products for about two years and I think we’re in nearly 200 stores across the country,” she said.
“We couldn’t keep up with it, which is a good problem to have.”
From the home-based micro business, she got an investor and now has a dedicated premises. The doors officially opened on Friday.
“Five minutes after we opened the door we’ve since had a wave of people, but it seems to be quite consistent,” Ms Vincent said.
“There is a lot of support and it is so nice to see people wanting to choose better options for themselves. We’ve seen first hand the benefits and how it can help a lot of health issues.
“It’s 100 per cent gluten free and as low carb as we can get it. So, all of the ingredients are compliant for keto and low carb, we have a nutritionist from My Tassie Kitchen that has endorsed our menu as well so we run everything new by her,” Ms Vincent said.
“It’s a huge challenge trying to meet all those dietary requirements, but the only one we don’t cover is nut allergies.”
The stuffed jalapenos and chicken burger is a stand out for Ms Vincent.
“There is something for the burger lovers, the vegans, the vegetarians, the meat lovers and then the salad lovers, we also have low carb sushi,” she said.
The building’s history has been maintained, with the badminton court lines still evident and church pews lining the walls.
Broth Me opens 7.30am to 2.30pm Tuesday to Saturday.
