Tasmania’s two most popular football codes were united as one in Deloraine last week as the town’s NTFA outfit hosted a group of Hobart United Soccer Club juniors.

Predominantly from refugee backgrounds, the United players stayed in the Roos’ clubrooms over a period of four days and joined in with pre-season training, as well as playing friendlies against Devonport and Somerset.
Deloraine’s Will Smith said the program had come as the club looked to build and lift up positive male role models during its 125th year of operation.
“[The kids] had an amazing time,” Smith said.
“As a club, we have the facilities, the staff and the people to create this positive change in our own community.
“We have taken the responsibility of starting positive change and we are committed to continuing it in the future.
“We hope this program can inspire other clubs to reach out and help build and connect with youth from all backgrounds and not just those that arrive on our club doorstep – as role models in the community, it is now our responsibility.”
The camp was organised in partnership with Edmund Rice Camps Tasmania.
