Mr Gutwein said he would seek financial assistance from the Federal Government if need be.
“The estimate at the moment is somewhere between $8 and $10 million in additional expenditure,” he said.
“But obviously we expect that to rise – the fire season is going to be with us still for some time yet.
“Obviously if there is an opportunity we will be putting forward an application to the Federal Government for assistance.”
Mr Gutwein is not fazed about the extra costs from battling the blazes.
“In terms of fire, or any other unexpected event, what’s important is you have the capacity within the budget and that’s why we plan for sensible budget surpluses,” he said.
Mr Gutwein paid tribute to the Tasmania Fire Service, volunteers and interstate fire-fighters for helping Tasmanians protect lives and properties.
“Tasmanians are always the first to put their hand up to go to assist in other states,” he said.
“Regardless of where you live in the country if you need assistance other states and jurisdictions will come to help.”
