The Tasmanian Clay Target Association’s premier event, the 2019 Down the Line Carnival, will be held at the Tasmanian Gun Club at Evandale from January 25 to 28.
There will be six state titles and high-value prizes on offer during the four-day event.
The clay target association chairman John Crosswell said more than 200 local and interstate competitors will take part.
“This is the event most of us prepare for throughout the year and in the lead up to the National Championships,” he said.
“Locally, our sport is alive and well despite some pockets of concern around firearms.”
There is fierce competition among the shooters, with competitors displaying not only their accuracy and technique but also self discipline and concentration.
State carnival spokesman Brett Smith said shooters’ equipment is very precious and lots of care is taken to ensure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
“We don’t look to comply, we look to stop theft,” he said.
Bass Labor MHR Ross Hart will officially open the state carnival at 3.30pm on January 26.
