The management have worked with the promoters of the grand prix held last weekend at Latrobe and the next weekend’s grand national in the state’s south to provide local fans the opportunity to see these big V8s attack the track.
The grand prix was one of the best races ever witnessed as Callum Harper had to charge to the front from tenth position. Sean Black, Matt Pascoe and Darren Kane from Queensland couldn’t withstand Harper’s onslaught.
Thursday could see a different outcome as the top teams reevaluate their strategy. Kane has won numerous events at Carrick while fellow Queenslander Sam Roza is enjoying his first super sedan foray to Tasmania.
New South Welshmen Darren Anning, Andrew White and Daryl Moon als0 showed fast pace last weekend.
Ryan Alexander and reigning Victorian and South Australian champion Dave Gartner are regular visitors to Tasmania while fellow South Australian Kym Jury in on his second visit to the state in the super.
Peter Nicola loves the Carrick track at Carrick while fellow Victorian Lucas Roberts is eager to improve after encountering some handling problems last weekend.
Sole West Australian Lee Aylett put in a strong showing on the second night after a wild ride along the concrete fence in one of his heats.
Adam Beechey was the top qualifying Tasmanian last weekend and won a heat while David Nicholls put an end to retirement rumours by winning two heats. Laura Davidson, Corey Smith and Gill Aylett also raced well and Leon Nicholls and Nathan Howells will be welcome additions to the entry list.
A good field of 17 street stocks is one of the support divisions while Clare Johnson is out to repeat her victory in a tough Tassie six field.
The Thursday night meeting will have a slightly different format with gates opening from 4pm with a pitwalk at 5.30 and racing from 7pm. The 50-lap final is scheduled to finish around 10pm. If a large crowd attends, this may become an annual event.
