Celia Pacquola will headline the stand-up show, but told audiences “not to expect that nice girl from the ABC.”
Her exuberant, witty brand of comedy is instantly recognisable to most comedy fans.
As well as being one-half of the writing and acting duo behind Tasmanian-set show Rosehaven, she has also had major roles on political satire Utopia, and critically-acclaimed New Zealand film The Breaker Upperers, as well as being a regular contestant on Channel Ten hit Have You Been Paying Attention?
But despite her on-screen fame, Pacquola said she still thinks of herself of a stand-up performer first and foremost – and her stand-up is a little less sweet than her TV fans may be picturing.
“There’s more swearing,” she laughed.
“I do ask people to look up my stand-up before committing to seeing my stand-up, because they might be in for a bit of a shock.”
Her live style is “silly, observational, honest – stupid – but silly is probably my favourite description. And funny, I hope.”
Tasmanian audiences are probably most familiar with her can’t-keep-her-down, madcap, burst-of-sunshine character Emma in Rosehaven.
But she stresses that Emma is only based on the real-life Celia “when I’m in a very, very good mood.”
“Emma is very childish – which I am, when I’m in that mood – but my stand-up is also about being a woman in her thirties in the world that we live,” she said. “So it’s a but more risque. But, I mean, I’m still quite immature.”
To be fair, her planned day does sound pretty Emma-from-Rosehaven.
She’s just been to a birthday “fancy breakfast” for a friend, and after our conversation, she’s spending the rest of the day at a dog beach.
Delightful as that sounds, there may just be more swearing than you may have anticipated.
