Frankland St parking
AGAIN I find it necessary to write because complaints to council fall on deaf ears.

Today we have cars parked two to one space on yellow lines right on the corner, as well as one parked for over an hour across the footpath out onto the road because he was connected to a trailer which was in a driveway. A woman and her child went onto the road to go around it. Do we just wait until someone is killed before we get some action from the council? Maybe three-hour parking would clear out the long term 12-hour parkers and force some sanity and responsibility back in the community.

West Tamar Council
REGARDING West Tamar Mayor Christine Holmdahl and the council getting involved in university business. Perhaps she should concentrate on local issues like the unsafe and run down condition of the path between Inspection Head and Beauty Point wharf at the Australian Maritime College.

Food vans
IT is nice to see that someone has decided to let Launceston councillors and ratepayers know the facts about the council’s ridiculous decision to trial two food vans in the Brisbane Street Mall for one month. Well done Kevin Bell. Whether anyone takes any notice of your letter Kevin is another question? There is a food hall less than 100 metres away on Wellington Street and people only have to walk across St John Street to find a place to eat.
As Kevin mentioned there are the problems of keeping the area rubbish free. It would not matter how many rubbish bins were installed, there would be food scraps and takeaway containers on the ground everywhere.
It is a wonder the Launceston City Council has not been in touch with the takeaway firm with the golden arches, or KFC, to set up shop in the mall. As Kevin also mentioned “If I ran a bakery, coffee shop or restaurant in the Brisbane Street Mall or the surrounding areas, and paid top dollar for rates, I would not want to see a food van pull up in front of my establishment just before lunchtime for four days a week”. Three other things that have not been mentioned by the council is how big will these food vans be, what type of food will they actually be selling and how and where, will this food be prepared?
