It comes after repeated police calls for marine safety over the holiday period. 

The 45-year-old man was kayaking with his dog near South George Town when the kayak began to take on water, and was caught in a current. 

He was located unhurt and standing on his sinking kayak and taken aboard a police boat.

His dog had swum to shore and was later found, also unhurt. 

“We again implore all members of the community to be safety conscious when going onto the water in any type of vessel,” said Inspector Michael Johnson.

“This incident could have ended in tragedy, which could easily have been avoided.

“The laws are about keeping us all safe. Ensure that the vessel is safe, that you’ve checked the weather forecast, that all the required safety equipment is on board, and that you wear a life jacket at all times.”
