Having recently been transferred from a hospital in Hobart to my home in Launceston I can vouch for the efficiency of this very friendly service.

Tobacco Tax
I totally agree with Brian Kenna’s letter in (The Examiner, January 8).
I read obesity is becoming a bigger killer than smoking, so many people are dying of drug overdose, watching shows like Motorway Patrol, so many motorists are caught with drugs in their system while driving, many driving with alcohol, with many over the limit.
As yet I haven’t seen anyone charged with smoking a cigarette while driving.
I am not obese, I do not take illicit drugs, do not drive if I have even had one drink of alcohol, my mobile phone is in my bag an will not be touch until I have reached my destination, I always wear my seatbelt and never speed.
And yet as Brian Kenna wrote, this state government is punishing law-abiding citizens, more than they do common criminals.
Brian Kenna serviced his country for 18 years, my grandfather fought in World War I, my father and uncle in World War II, my late husband did two tours of Vietnam and why for our freedom.
It’s sad to say smokers don’t have that freedom.
Whether to it be state or federal government, it's about time you give smokers a break.
As for the non-smoker’s just be happy you have the freedom to say how you feel.
Thank you, Brian Kenna, for your 18-year service, you should be proud of what you did for your country.
L. Morton, Beaumaris.
Clean energy
GARY Daly (The Examiner, January 10) seems surprised that Amanda Mckenzie of the Climate Council sees 2019 as a year that will define us on climate change.
Well, she would say that don’t you think?
Gary himself prefers the safe nuclear option - a phrase that echoes clean coal.
An issue in this country which is even more intractable than the debate on renewables.
Where to locate nuclear power plants?
Where to store the waste etc?
He also states that the federal government is not a peak alarmist organisation and makes decisions for all Australians.
If only.
They opposed the banking royal commission - and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to implement it - never forget.
They have opposed renewables at every turn.
They are fierce advocates for the coal industry.
They trade on fear at every opportunity with asylum seekers and Sudanese gangs.
As for jet fuel, we are all on the same ship - if you will pardon the expression.
However a fast electric train between our major cities powered by renewables, now there is a project whose time has surely come.
