The 17-year-old edged out once Prospect Vale clubmate Ronan Filgate by two shots to win the Tamar Valley Junior Cup on Tuesday.
Thomas, who nowadays represents the Yarra Yarra club in Melbourne’s south-east, carded a five-under 66 on the Greens Beach course to stretch his lead by one over Filgate.
Thomas had shot first-day rounds of 66 and 67 to lead by three strokes until a two-over 73 brought Filgate back into contention.
Nathan Page from The National club on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula was five shots behind Thomas on 280 after coming home with a best-round of 67.
Tasmanian Jack Lakin had proven to be a model of consistency in both days of play.
The Stanley golfer was a further three strokes back in fourth after ending his rounds of 71, 71, 70 and 71 with a one-under.
In a thrilling conclusion to the girls’ section, South Australian Shakira-Ann Kuys defeated Tasmanian Hallie Meaburn on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff.
The two players tied after 72 holes with a 15-over 299 when Meaburn gave up a five-stroke lead entering the final round.
The Royal Hobart golfer had earlier shot 74, 74 and 73 before carding a 78 on the final 18 holes.
Amelia Whinney finished two shots behind the pair.
The South Australian, one of three from the state to finish in the top five, had trailed Meaburn by just one before a final faltering 79.
Taylah Ellems and Matilda Miels tied for fourth, five shots behind Kuys and Meaburn.
