Blue Farmer is a community project that started during the Tasmanian Craft Fair in November, culminating in its placement along the old highway at Deloraine late last week.
Director Lesley Dare said Blue Farmer had two purposes: bringing the community together and raising awareness of depression.
Over the four days of the Craft Fair 250 people visited the community arts tent to help knit the farmer’s blue garments.
“Some kept knitting afterwards and Ashley School designed and built the frame then we had it reinforced and last week we got together an sewed all the pieces together and erected the Blue Farmer in front of Ashley,” Ms Dare said.
“It was a great opportunity for the community to work closely with us and we encouraged people to come and sit and talk. The idea is that we created the Blue Farmer looking out over the landscape to remind people to look out for each other.”
