A veteran of 85 career starts, Hello Nugget has been in stellar form on the North West circuit over the past 18 months recording 12 wins includuing a sizzling personal best of 25.36 in June.
“I couldn’t be happier – he’s just an honest chaser,” Grubb said.
“Some dogs past three years of age tend to fall away or start to lose form whereas this bloke just gives his all every time he races.
“He’s 4-½ now and looks better than ever. He would have to be the most consistent dog we’ve had in the kennel.
“It’s pretty satisfying to see him compete with the best and drawing box 1 was a big advantage in his heat.”
Hello Nugget led virtually all the way but, from box 3 in the final, is an $18 outsider in the latest Sportsbet market.
Mick Stringer-trained Despacito is $2.80 favourite.
