Market organiser Rhea Gillie said it was good to see so many people looking to give used clothes a new home.

“So much clothing ends up in landfill, so instead of them going to waste then they can just be recycled,” Ms Gillie said.

“Everything here is great quality, pre-loved, upcycled, vintage retro and it’s all going for bargain prices.”

With 2019 now upon us, Ms Gillie said the day was a wonderful chance for people to clear out the previous year’s wardrobe and start fresh.

“People can clear out their wardrobes, and give clothes that they’re no long wearing a new life instead of having them end up in landfill,” Ms Gillie said.

“We sort of encourage people to buy pre-loved instead of buying brand new.

“We can try and make a bit of an impact on the amount of clothes that are out in the world so we’re not supporting slave labor there’s already enough clothes out there so we can reuse and recycle.”

Apart from sales made by stallholders, all funds raised from the market will go to The Salvation Army.

Further markets are planned for later in 2019, with dates to be arranged.
