If you asked a local what their favourite season in Tasmania is, this one, where late summer slowly melts into autumn, would be it.
You couldn’t pick a better time to see this island state: the nights are cool and the earth seems to breathe in relief.
This is also a time of reliable warm days and it’s now that you’ll find some of the state’s best events.
This year Tasmania welcomes back the biannual 10 Days on the Island, which is Australia’s only multi-arts statewide festival and provides a celebration of Tasmania's distinct island culture.
From baroque music at the picturesque Clover Hill Vineyard to a spectacular finale staring Bosnian singing sensation Božo Vrećo this is sure to be one event you don’t want to miss.
Lovers of classical music, and those with a penchant for picnics, will also want to catch the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s much loved Symphony Under the Stars.
Held in Launceston’s City Park and, for the first time, in Hobart’s Royal Botanic Gardens, this is one of the state’s best free events that promises a great night of fantastic music in some of its most picturesque surrounds.
And lovers of boats, timber and fine craftsmanship will be happy to see the return of the much-loved MyState Australian Wooden Boat Festival.
This celebration of maritime culture and craftsmanship is the biggest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere and draws people from throughout the world to the Hobart waterfront for four-days of fun and activities.
Those looking to get away from the crowds are also well catered for at this time of year.
In fact, there’s no better time to experience some of the best of the Tasmanian wilderness before Autumn’s chill sets in.
With the wild wilderness of the West Coast easily accessible – and far more reliable weather-wise, plan to explore this less-known stretch of Tasmanian coastline.
And on the opposite side of the state Maria Island and the many beaches and bays of the East Coast promise long warm days to while away beachside.
No matter what you’re looking for, from urban adventures and artistic endeavours to the sweet solitude of the wilderness, Tasmania has it all on offer.
With its legendary wine and food culture, including the much-celebrated Agrarian Kitchen Eatery & Store in New Norfolk, its wealth of pretty towns and atmospheric cities, you can see why the whole world is falling in love with Tasmania.
