The men were wearing balaclavas when they kicked down the front door of a house on Kay Street. 

Once inside, the intruders doused a 23-year-old mother and her two-year-old son in petrol, and threatened their lives in a bid to locate another two men. 

The thugs spent up to 10 minutes terrorising the mother but didn’t get the information they were after.

They left the Kay Street house with a quantity of cash. 

The first man is described as being tall with a thin build and aged between 35 and 45. 

The second man is described as shorter with a heavier build, aged between 30 and 40. 

Both men were wearing face coverings. 

The mother and her toddler weren’t physically injured during the 10-minute ordeal, but the woman was taken to the Launceston General Hospital by her partner on Wednesday afternoon. 

Detective Inspector Parker said the mother suffered minor complications from having petrol poured on her, but she has since been released from hospital. 

Police have received a number of reports from the community and are particularly interested in information a small red sedan seen parked on Kay and Janet streets around the time of the invasion.
