Belgian Kirsten Flipkens, former world no. 7 Belinda Bencic and Ukrainian young gun Dayana Yastremska all marched into Hobart International’s quarter-finals.
Swiss star Bencic prevailed 6-2 6-4 over Australian wildcard Zoe Hives, who won her maiden WTA tour match on Tuesday, while Flipkens came from a set and a break down to defeat Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova 6-7(3) 6-4 6-1.
“From 2-4 down I knew it was going to be difficult to come back, but nothing is impossible,” Flipkens said.
“It was more up to me to be a little bit more aggressive with my game … that was the key today.”
Yastremska continued her fine form with a 6-1 6-4 win over fellow young gun Belarusian Vera Lapko.
“Today I think was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my tennis career,” the world no. 58 said.
“In the second set it was really windy and she got back into the game, but I held myself and stayed calm.”
