The Van Diemens Car Show will roll into York Park on Sunday for the 29^th time, with hundreds of cars, bikes and trikes expected to be displayed – and a new competition for the kids.

“It’s open to all makes with no restrictions,” said Grant Sutton, a long-time member of the Van Diemens Car Club.

“We get a cross-section of cars, not just hot rods,” Tom Hendley added.

“We like to see those later model ones as well as the older ones. The old and the new, anything with wheels.

“We normally get 160-180 cars and there’s always something different, something of interest – somebody brings something along that nobody has seen before.”

Alongside the show of cars, Launceston-based photographer Phillip Kuruvita will hold a signing for his book, Behind The Garage Door – a collection of special cars and those who own them.

The car show is open to the public from 10am-2pm on Sunday, January 13, with judging to take place from 2pm.

Trophies will be awarded for the top 10 vehicles, a people’s choice, and a Shannons winner.

Punters will also be treated to food stalls on the day, along with live music from The Smokin' Elmores.

This year, a Lego car building competition is also set to be a feature, open to children aged 12 or under.

Entries will be judged under two categories – 5-8 years and 9-12 years – and should be delivered with a brief description in a closed box to the venue by 11am on the day.

The cars can be made of Lego or a similar type of block and be nor larger than 24 centimetres in width and length.

Three prizes will be awarded for each age group, with the first place taking home a Lego kit valued at $200.
