Beauty Point off-spinner Kaidyn Apted and Cressy all-rounder Alex Tubb have both been selected for the Tasmanian under-13 side which will compete against Cricket Southern Bayside representative teams in a five-day tour of regional Victoria later this month.
Apted played in Beauty Point’s loss to TCL premier league heavyweight Longford last weekend and also plays for Riverside in the Cricket North competition.
The Riverside Primary grade six student scored a fifty and took a five-for in Cricket North’s under-15s before Christmas, and is joined in the under-13 squad by a fellow Blue in Aidan O’Connor.
“I’m pretty excited, it’s my second year (in the team),” said Apted, who swapped pace for spin two years ago.
“You have to have good preparation ... if you have good preparation, you have a good game.”
Tubb is playing his second year at Cressy - where he also attends the local high school - and credits the Bulldogs with bringing his game to the next level.
“I’m a bit nervous but I’m excited for the opportunity,” the 13-year-old said.
“I’ve been playing pretty much my whole life - Dad used to play cricket and my older cousin plays cricket so I’v been pretty much straight into it from there.”
The two young talents have received a contribution from the TCL towards their trip.
Whyte said it was a small price to pay to help the next generation progress through the ranks.
“The young kids are the future of cricket,” Whyte said.
“It’s not every day you get young kids this age representing the state, so the TCL decided to chip in to help them get over there.”
The Tasmanian team will play two T20s and two 40-over matches between January 21 and 25.
