General manager Michael Stretton said he was disappointed that vandals had damaged the sign.
"We know that more than 6000 people visit the Cataract Gorge a day, and to have the sign at the gateway to the Gorge vandalised in this way is really disappointing," Mr Stretton said.
The council is looking at using a different method of adhering the letters to the wall in a bid to prevent the sign from being vandalised.
"However, any kind of vandalism is disappointing we encourage people who witness any acts of vandalism to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000,” he said.
Vandalism is a constant source of concern for the council.
"Not only is it unsightly, but it's also a financial drain on the ratepayer and that's unacceptable," he said.
