A social media post slamming the Braddon Liberal MP included a photo of Mr Brooks with his partner, Liberal Senate candidate and Hobart City alderman Tanya Denison.
The post, on an anonymous account, has been taken down, but the picture of the couple remained on Ms Denison’s account on Monday. Mr Brooks also allegedly attended the Nick Cave concert at the Odeon on January 6.
A state government spokesperson said Adam Brooks began his current period of medical leave on November 27 and missed three days of Parliament on November 27, 28 and 29.
“He is still currently on leave based on medical advice,” the spokesperson said.
“The details of Mr Brooks’ leave is private and a matter between him and his doctor.”
Braddon Labor MP Shane Broad said the Braddon people had trusted Mr Brooks and he had let them down. Mr Broad said for Mr Brooks to be “absent from the Parliament and his duties but then to show up at Hobart social events while on indefinite sick leave does not pass the pub test”.
“Premier Hodgman needs to front Mr Brooks today and ask him if he is serious about continuing as the Member for Braddon and if he intends to provide realistic representation,” he said.
The social media post criticised Mr Brooks for attending the Taste event.
“Too sick to turn up to Parliament?,” the post asked.
“Too sick to provide realistic representation to the people of Braddon?
“But not so sick that he can cruise around Hobart ... and chow down at the Taste?”
Mr Brooks’ sick leave started the day the Integrity Commission published its report into his behaviour as Mining Minister in 2016.
The Commission found he had breached parliamentary protocols and had misled Premier Will Hodgman.
Mr Hodgman said at the time that Mr Brooks had been dealing with personal health issues and was currently on ‘indefinite’ medical leave.
Later, Mr Brooks said he would return to politics once he had sorted out his health.
It is believed that Mr Brooks remains on full pay while on sick leave.
