In a statement, the festival said it was working to find a replacement act for the time slot.
“We’re devo that they’ll no longer perform at our first Mona Foma in Launceston, and shocked by their announcement,” the statement reads.
“Our team is working hard to find a new artist to join the festival. We’ll let you know ASAP.
“As per our Ts and Cs, you’re eligible for a refund of your Three Day Festival Ticket or Sunday Day Pass.
“Decide what you’d like to do. But we’d urge you to still join us for Launnie’s first Mona Foma.
“Rest assured: we’ll be pulling out all the stops to make the festival as epic as possible, with Sunday’s line-up featuring Courtney Barnett, WWWater, Nakhane, Striborg, Hánba!, and heaps more.”
In their own statement, Underworld said the cancellation was due to “unforeseen circumstances, beyond the control of the band and the local presenters Mona Foma and Electric Gardens.”
“We are sorry to disappoint those of you looking forward to seeing us and wish our friends at Electric Garden and Mona Foma the very best of luck with their festivals,” the statement reads.
“We will be back soon…”
