But not even the coup appointment of Salliann Briggs, a revolutionary women’s English coach and veteran of 114 one-dayers and 28 T20 internationals, has been able to turnaround the mediocre results of the past 12 months.
Hurricanes captain Sasha Moloney said that a poor 2-9 record won’t deter her side from finishing strongly ahead of back-to-back away games to Adelaide Strikers.
“Obviously it’s not been the season that we hoped for or expected,” Moloney said.
“But we’re now just taking each game as it comes and we know we still have a lot to get out of these last three games. We still go into each and every game wanting to win, so that’s the aim.”
The Hurricanes lifted their faint chance of reaching the finals after a breakthrough win in Launceston, but two quick losses snuffed that out.
The Longford product insists their final WBBL games will be put to good use.
“We’re looking at the future, knowing we obviously can’t make the finals this year, but how can we give some confidence to our future players,” Moloney said.
“Once Big Bash is over we’re going to be going back to WNCL, so there is still plenty to work on.”
