Chasing 9-167, Chieftains were cruising at 0-73 and 1-104 thanks to Thanuka Dabare’s 52-ball 79 before John Hayes (4-16 off four overs) ripped through the line-up.
Hadspen lost its ninth wicket still one run short of the total before cool-headed Brad Eames (17 not out) clubbed a two off Matthew Rigby to secure victory with nine overs spare.
Earlier, Hayes put on 78 with fellow Demon Matthew Lawrence for the third wicket to top-score with 56.

The Bulldogs made 6-221 courtesy of Sam Graham (66) and Jonty Manktelow (50), with Jeremy Robinson, Jai Bourke and Sam Howe all picking up two wickets for the Durhams.
An impressive bowling display from Manktelow (3-16) then reduced Legana to 5-60 in reply before Chris Demeyer (50) and Andrew Wright (34 not out) led the the Durhams to 7-176.
LONGFORD extended its wining streak with an easy eight-wicket win over Beauty Point.
The Tamar Valley Tigers fought hard early, reaching 2-119 thanks to determined batting from Jason Savage (42) and Vaughen Rose (37).
A collapse of 8-26 left the premiers with just 145 to chase, and they did so in less than 15 overs with Jackson Blair (56 not out) and Dilan Sandagirigoda (47) doing the brunt of the work.
Savage and Zac Cooke took a wicket each for Beauty Point.
In the final game of the round, ACL made 8-201 at Legana batting first against Trevallyn.
