Kick back and watch the racing
The stunning seaside town of Bridport plays host to the second round of the Triathlon Tasmania state series on Saturday, January 5. Boasting the series only Olympic distance triathlon, the event will see a field of athletes tackle a gruelling course featuring a 1.5km swim, 40km ride and 10km run. Ali Foot and Hobart’s Danika Bumford appear as the duo to beat on the day. About 175 athletes will take part across the individual and team events and the public can cheer them on from the village green adjacent to the community hall.

Visit the lavender farm in full bloom
Just a short drive on the way back from Bridport, why not stop in and visit Bridestowe Lavender Estate while the fields are in full bloom. Head out and take photos in the fields, sample some of their iconic lavender ice cream, or listen in on a guided tour of the property. Opportunities also exist to make lavender soap, learn to cook a delicious dish with lavender or make your own Bobbie the Bear, however, it’s recommended you call ahead to ensure there are places available for these activities.
Pnau at the Pub
Sunday session with a difference
For something a little different, why not take your friends on a road trip to see Pnau, one of Australia’s foremost electronic acts play an intimate show at the Forth Pub. The trio, comprising of Peter Mayes with Sam and Nick Littlemore, are known for their huge singles such as Chameleon and Wild Strawberries and will be treating fans in Tasmania to a set full of their infectious electro-pop. Doors open 4pm Sunday.
Pick Your Own Fruit
A taste of the East Tamar
Lees Orchard at Dilston has just kicked off their season of pick-your-own cherries. Open from 10am to 3.30pm on Saturday, it’s the perfect opportunity to combine a day out in the sun while collecting a haul of delicious fruit to take home. If cherries aren’t your thing, the Hillwood Berry Farm and Farmgate is open everyday 9am to 5pm and has plenty of strawberries to pick, or if you’d prefer to relax, why not sit back in their cafe and enjoy a strawberry milkshake or ice cream.

Still looking for more action after last weekend’s BBL games? Northern Tasmania’s finest are on show with the Northern Raiders combined squad taking on North Hobart in a Twenty20 match at UTAS Stadium at 1pm on Saturday afternoon. Fancy a trip to the country? Perth and Hadspen battle it out in the TCL at Perth, while Westbury and Launceston face off in the NTCA at Westbury.
