The Tasmanian teenager debuted for Melbourne Renegades last month and has since all but cemented her spot in the middle order on the back of several mature knocks.
The former South Launceston all-rounder is averaging 38 after five innings, including three unbeaten scores of 20-plus, and has taken her game to the country’s most iconic grounds including the MCG, SCG and WACA.
On Thursday Webb scored 22 not out at quicker than a run a ball to keep her side in the running for its first ever final series, all while inflicting another loss on the Hobart Hurricanes.
“It’s been really cool to get us across the line in a couple of games and finish off the innings,” Webb said.
“I do like that role and it’s nice finishing not out at the end so that’s what I’m trying to do each game if needed.
“There’s a lot of really high-quality players in the team, so it’s been really cool to get an opportunity in the last few games and contribute to a couple of wins.
“We’ve got a pretty good squad so I knew it would be really hard to break into the starting XI, so I’m really trying to make the most of every opportunity I do get to play for them.”
A Tassie Tiger during the WNCL season, Webb said it had been a privilege to learn from New Zealand skipper Amy Sattherthwaite, fellow White Fern Lea Tahuhu and England opener Danni Wyatt.
“I’ve got a couple of really good friends in the squad which makes things a bit easier, a bit more relaxed when I go out there and play,” Webb said.
“It was nice to go out and play against the Hurricanes girls, they were fairly nice to me so that made things a bit easier as well.
“It was good to see them all again, I get along really well with everyone in the team and they’re all really good friends of mine, but it was a little bit weird coming up against them.
“I’ve trained with them a lot so I know their bowling pretty well and it sort of felt like just another net session back home, but it was good to go out against them and make a few runs.”
Webb is balancing her maiden WBBL campaign with AFLW pre-season training, with her Carlton side set to play its first practice match on January 16.
A well-earned rest will follow her second AFLW season.
“I’m lucky that I have Jess Duffin in my cricket team who also plays for North Melbourne in the AFLW, so we’ll have a kick after the games and sometimes in the warm-ups, so I’ll still get a bit of skills in so that’s been really handy for the both of us.
“It’s great that I’m still able to do both (footy and cricket) and I’m really appreciating the opportunities that I’m getting at the moment.”
