The change means people with a disability aged 0 to 64 can get support from the NDIS, choosing from 1245 approved service providers in Tasmania.
Disability Services and Community Development Minister Jacquie Petrusma said the state government was working with people with disabilities, their families, carers and disability providers in the rollout of the NDIS.
“Existing Commonwealth and state based services and supports will also continue until all eligible people commence in the NDIS over the final six months of transition,” she said.
“NDIS participant satisfaction continues to be high with the latest quarterly data for the NDIS showing that 93 per cent of participants now rate their experience as ‘very good’ or ‘good’.
“The NDIS will greatly improve these people’s lives, with around 10,600 Tasmanians expected to be in the NDIS by June 30, 2019.”
The rollout of the scheme has encountered criticism from a number of areas, including the industry sector, which has claimed it is being used to “underwrite the inadequacies and inefficiencies of the NDIS”.
Other issues included long waiting times, communication issues with the NDIA and confusing processes in signing up.
