Tasmania Police are continuing to investigate the head-on crash on Pipers River Road, and carried out a crash scene survey on Boxing Day.
At about 4pm on Boxing Day, police believe the driver of a blue Holden Commodore with dark coloured aftermarket rims and tinted windows performed burnouts on the scene, leaving a series of marks on the road.
Senior Constable Michal Rybka said witnesses could help track down the driver.
“The burnouts were performed multiple times over double continuous white lines and over both traffic lanes,” he said.
“Police are disappointed that the driver responsible has not only put themselves at risk, but also other road users.
“The location of the incident was in a higher speed zone with limited visibility from both directions of travel.”
An 18-year-old Ravenswood man was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital on Christmas Day with critical injuries after he was a passenger in a car involved in a head-on crash.
He remains in a critical condition.
