The donation pushes total funds raised over the target of $80,000, with an estimated $86,000 now received before Christmas.
Examiner editor Courtney Greisbach said she was very grateful for all the donations received over the past four weeks of the appeal.
“To surpass it before Christmas is incredible and a great gift for all the charities,” Greisbach said.
The Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise presented the cheque to The Examiner at City Park on Christmas Eve.
Carols committee chairman and organiser Danny Gibson said he was proud of the counting team for their quick turnaround in presenting a donation so quickly.
“To be able to tally up the figures and for us to be in a position this afternoon to be able to hand this amount over; what better present on Christmas Eve than to surpass the target?” Mr Gibson said.
“It’s a great sense of accomplishment and more importantly a great sense of community.
“People working together celebrating their gifts and talents on the stage at the same time knowing that they’re doing something for those doing it tough at Christmas time.”
Mr Gibson said estimated attendance of the carols was over 6000 people.

“It was a tremendous evening, obviously a culmination of months of preparation and hard work,” he said.
“There was a wonderful sense of community all throughout the park not only in the lead up but certainly during the event as well.”
Greisbach said it was wonderful to see such generosity from the carols.
“The beauty of their donation is that it is a community donation,” she said.
“We’re very fortunate to have clubs like the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise who put on this incredible event; Carols by Candlelight and see the need to give back to the community and then have 6000 people support it is pretty amazing.”
Donations for the appeal will remain open until early 2019.
