Ms Brown, a self-taught foodie, has shared a number of collaborations in the past with various vineyards with partner Don Monk, and this year the duo will be wine-pairing their products with Josef Chromy Wines. 

The two are joined by more than 100 other stallholders, including 21 others from the North, and sit alongside entertainment such as foodie masterclasses, a children and family program, local and national music acts, and circus and street performers. 

They will be launching a new Tasmanian seafood product range including a smoked mussel pate, a crayfish mousse, an octopus terrine and a confit of abalone under the Vineyard Seafood banner, which can be tasted or taken home.

Ms Brown said they will also be serving grilled scallops with hazelnut and coriander butter, which won last year’s best plate, a steamed scallop with ginger, soy and sesame, and a tequila, lime scallop ceviche served on a crispy tortilla. 

“I didn’t set out to win the prizes but it is an honour if someone else acknowledges your food.  Having said that we are pretty excited about our scallop ceviche which we have developed especially for The Taste this year,” Ms Brown said.

Of their confit abalone, sourced from an abalone farm in Stanley, Ms Brown said its aim was to make abalone available to everyone. 

“A lot of people think it is really, really expensive, and they haven’t tasted it before, maybe because of the price and being unsure whether they will like it,” she said.

“People can try it at the Taste for a reasonable market price and enjoy this product.” 

The Taste of Tasmania starts December 28 and continues until January 3, and sits alongside a variety of food, music and history summer events.

The Hobart Hurricanes will be playing at of University of Tasmania stadium on December 30 and again January 31.

On New Year’s Beerfest Launceston will be hosted at Royal Park from 4pm.

Music will be on show at the City of Launceston’s Music in the Park on January 6, while every weekend in January from 1pm to 3pm live music will be played at Goaty Hill vineyard. 

More music will arrive with the Festival of Small Halls Australia, which will be at Rowella, Nunamara, Longford and Meander on January 7, 8, 9 and 10 respectively, and then Party in the Paddock on February 7. 

Following Festivale on February 1 to 3, food from the region will again be on show at Launceston Night Market in Civic Square on February 8.
