The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and four teams of search and rescue staff with assistance from the State Emergency Service are searching tracks leading in and out of the area.
The Flinders Island man was last seen on November 12 before he started a month walk in the south-west region.
Mr McLean signed into the Huon Track walk in the Tahune area on November 13.
He was planning to walk to Melaleuca and explore some of the surrounding areas before returning on December 13, but he did not reach his food drop in Melaleuca and has not returned home.
Police said he is a reasonably experienced walker and completed walks in the area before.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 131 444.
