Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff has ordered an independent audit of the Education Department to understand how the ATAR scores were incorrectly calculated.

“The audit will look into the business processes undertaken by the department in supplying critical data to TASC and UTAS,” Mr Rockliff said.

It is unknown at this stage how many students were affected by the error but correct ATAR scores were reissued to affected students on Tuesday evening.

“I understand this error will have been upsetting for some students and I’d like to reassure them that their tertiary admissions will not be impacted,” Mr Rockliff said.

He praised the actions of the Education Department in their swift response to the issue, which was rectified within the same day.
