Tasmania Police remained tight-lipped about the offenders’ whereabouts on Tuesday, but they confirmed investigations were ongoing.
A 33-year-old man remains in a stable condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital after he was shot in the face outside his Herbert Street unit about 10.20pm.
The man sustained injuries to his left eye and temple area, police said.
The victim underwent surgery on Monday.
Tasmania Police Detective Inspector Gary Williams on Monday said police were following a particular line of inquiry.
“We believe these people were known to each other or at least in the same social circles as each other,” he said.
“We don’t believe this is a random shooting, so as far as community alarm goes there is little cause for that.”
Anyone who saw two men wearing baseball caps heading towards Invermay Road or near Herbert Street between 9.40pm and 10.20pm are asked to call police on 131 444.
Both men are described as being in their 20s and from 175cm to 180cm tall, with one wearing shorts and the other wearing long pants.
Police are also calling on businesses in the area to provide them with any relevant CCTV footage.
A neighbour, Robert, told The Examiner the victim was a “very nice man” and they often speak when they’re in the courtyard.
The 73-year-old was watching television when he heard a “horrific bang”.
“I was too scared to move,” he said.
“I thought it was a bomb.”
Robert said his neighbour has a lot of friends who come and go.
“I’m just so shocked,” he said.
There have been a number of shootings in the state over the past few weeks, with four in the North of the state in about five weeks.
Detective Inspector Williams said firearm crime of any nature was concerning to Tasmania Police and the community as a whole.
“What we are concerned about is the use of firearms in these violent crimes which have very, very serious repercussions for both offenders and victims,” he said.
Information about the shooting or the offenders’ whereabouts can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
