Boasting a huge range of food, great coffee and a chance to delve into the past of a motor sport legend.
The cafe is a haven for motorcycle lovers and fans of New Zealand legend, Burt Munro, famous for setting an under-1,000 cc world record, at Bonneville, 26 August 1967.
This record still stands; Munro was 68 and was riding a 47-year-old machine when he set his last record.
The cafe, first opened three years ago by Tibor Mucha, who is a Burt Munro enthusiasts and collector, Tibor decked out the cafe with his collection wanting to create a museum of sorts for the bike legend.
The cafe is now run by Kellie and Wayne Murfet, who have embraced the theme as their own, while focusing on providing an outstanding menu.
“We offer tourists and locals a different experience with the motorcycle museum, we have a lot of old models on display,” manager Kellie Murfet said.
“The cafe has an old 50s diner feel with the atmosphere and music playing.
“We try to offer locals and tourists a great experience as well as a bloody good coffee and good food at good prices.”
The cafe has become a popular spot for tourists who are intrigued by the collection and the focus on a New Zealander in Northern Tasmania.
“We get a lot of people who come to the cafe on their bikes, straight from the spirit,” Kellie said.
“The cafe is the perfect distance from Devonport for a lot of people to come for breakfast, on a really great scenic road.
“It is a great first stop on their tour of Tasmania.”
Since taking over in August 2018, Kellie said the highlight had been meeting all the locals and tourists.
The Burt Munro Cafe offers an extensive all-day breakfast and lunch menu.
Meals include crumb scallops, burgers, scotch fillet, flat head and ham steak and pineapple and a range of homemade pies and desserts, made by Kellie and Wayne
Kellie and Wayne have plans to introduce a Sunday recovery session with music and food at the cafe and are just about to launch a steak night on a Monday evening.
Sit back and enjoy the 50s diner atmosphere while enjoying the collections of memorabilia and the bikes on display, even if you aren’t a bike enthusiast, the food and coffee is worth the stop.
