From president Steve Cocker’s selective choice of words, Trevallyn’s 90-year cricket existence has something of a “potted history” about it.

Never more so than when attending a funeral of a Trevallyn old-timer more than a decade ago, hearing stories of former teammates talking up the halcyon days.
“I had some idea of it – I’m 57 – and have pieced [together] some memories of these sorts of things,” Cocker said.
“It’s quite interesting what was the social life of working people in Launceston, really.
“Obviously, it’s changed rather a lot: the history of the area, the history of the club.”
That dates back to when the second-oldest existing TCL club (behind century-old Diggers) was founded in 1929.
There had been records of cricketers informally representing Trevallyn until it entered regular competition.
The club may be based out of the leafy hill suburbs, but it can trace its roots back to a working man’s game.
“Bar one year, we have every scorebook of every game that’s ever been played at Trevallyn,” Cocker said.
“One of the interesting things about the only 1929 one, which is in fairly reasonable repair, is the roster that shows games against the Launceston Working Men’s Club, the Postal Institute and Coats Patons.
“So this goes back to an era where the businesses that made up Launceston had those active social clubs and Trevallyn was a part of that.”
This past and everything since will be celebrated at the club’s 90th anniversary in February next year.
The club is hoping to contact every player to have turned out for Trevallyn.
That will extend to Stan Reid, the former Sheffield Shield left-handed batsman, who was capped 11 times between 1981 until 1983.
A teenage Reid started out his playing career at Trevallyn in the early 1970s before heading across the river to Mowbray for the opportunity to play for Tasmania.
More than four decades on, Clinton Reid finally followed his father’s footsteps, forgoing a long association at Mowbray to finish his time in the game at Trevallyn.
