The design has been completed by Andrew Shedden with Building Design Service, Scottsdale, with works scheduled to begin in January.
Completion is estimated for April 2019, Dorset Council general manager Tim Watson said.
“It’ll have a double purpose: as a much-needed upgrade to the clubrooms and facilities, and by turning it into a centre that can be used by the entire community,” he said.
“The project will deliver an important community asset – there’s a need for it in the town.”
The ground floor of the club will be refurbished along with the addition of the second storey.
The new centre will be able to be used by the cricket and football clubs, who currently use the clubroom, as well as for general use in the community for group and private functions.
Money for the project comes from the Department of State Growth’s Community Infrastructure Fund.
